The effect of selenium on kokanee salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) in Kluane National Park and Reserve, Yukon Territory

Biography
I am studying the effect of selenium on kokanee salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) in the Kathleen Lake system (Kluane National Park and Reserve, Yukon Territory), in collaboration with Parks Canada and Dr. Heidi Swanson at the University of Waterloo. We are using laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) to measure trace levels of metals in otoliths, for comparison with trace metal levels in muscle tissue and eggs. My research will help improve our understanding of the 2000s kokanee population decline by investigating the potential role of selenium contamination.
