Biography : 

Carolyne Qiang is a dedicated Master of Science student in Geography with a strong academic background and a passion for environmental science and geospatial analysis. She completed her Honors Bachelor of Science with High Distinction at the University of Toronto Mississauga, with a double major in GIS and Environmental Science and a minor in Environmental Management. During her undergraduate studies, Carolyne's commitment to environmental research and GIS was evident through her involvement in various projects. These projects include automating natural land cover classification using machine learning at the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), and conducting fieldwork and data collection for rooftop precision agriculture of hyperspectral remote sensing at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Her contributions encompassed complex spatial analysis, integration of multidisciplinary data, and the application of cloud-based platforms such as Google Earth Engine. Her dedication to research is underscored by her publication titled "Impact of COVID-19 Restrictions on Urban Thermal Environment of Edmonton, Canada," which was published in Environmental Management in March 2023.

Carolyne has received a series of prestigious awards, including the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) for 2023-2024, the Center for Urban Environments Undergraduate Award 2023, the University of Toronto Excellence Award in Natural Science and Engineering (UTEA - NSE Award) in 2022 and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada Undergraduate Student Research Award (NSERC – USRA) in 2021. She is also the recipient of the A.P. Sandrasagra Memorial Scholarship, granted to one undergraduate student at the University of Toronto Mississauga who intends to pursue graduate study in the natural sciences. Carolyne possesses a diverse skill set, including proficiency in multiple languages, a strong command of GIS software, and extensive field experience. She is poised to continue her journey, dedicating herself to crafting a more sustainable and habitable urban environment.
