Biography
Dr. Tathagato Chakraborty is a Senior Economist at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Government of Ontario, where he provides expert analysis on housing affordability, urban development, and municipal growth strategies. In this role, he evaluates housing trends, develops evidence-based policies, and supports initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable, inclusive, and equitable communities across Ontario.
With a PhD in Urban Studies, Dr. Chakraborty’s academic and professional expertise addresses critical challenges in housing policy, spatial inequalities, and socio-spatial justice. His research leverages advanced methodologies, including GIS, machine learning, and mixed-methods approaches, to deliver actionable insights into urban planning and development. Over the past seven years, he has led impactful projects such as analyzing eviction dynamics in Toronto, designing innovative micro-transit solutions in Milwaukee, and developing interactive urban mapping tools to enhance policy and decision-making.
Beyond his policy work, Dr. Chakraborty is a passionate educator. He teaches undergraduate courses at the University of Toronto and advanced data analysis methods to master's and doctoral students in the United States. His teaching combines technical rigor with real-world applications, preparing students to navigate the complexities of urban planning in diverse and dynamic contexts.
