Biography

Dr. Yuhong He is a Professor in Physical Geography. Her research focuses on investigating changes that have occurred in natural (grasslands, forests, wetlands) or managed (farmlands and urban) systems using remote sensing, machine learning, and ecosystem modelings. Her work has been supported by major grants from various internal and external sources, including NSERC, CFI, ERA, CSA, et al. Dr. Yuhong He and her team have published more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and presented over 80 papers at national and international conferences. Her innovative research has been recognized through the Early Researcher Award of Ontario in 2015 and the Early Career Scholar Award from Remote Sensing Specialty Group at the AAG 2011 annual meeting. Dr. He has mobilized multidisciplinary researchers and collaborated with cross-sectoral practitioners for the common goals of understanding how human activities and global changes affect environments and discovering how to make our natural/built environments healthier, more resilient, and adaptable. Her research partners are seen from local conservation authorities (e.g., Credit Valley Conservation), federal government organizations (e.g., AAFC, Environment Canada, and Parks Canada), and private companies. In terms of service, Dr. Yuhong He was an associate editor for the Journal of Applied Remote Sensing from 2016-2019, and is an editorial advisory board member for the ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and for Environment Management. She currently serves as Director in Canadian Remote Sensing Society, and her past service included as Director of Remote Sensing Specialty Group in AAG (2012-2014), and Associate Chair, Academic and GIS program advisor in GGE at UTM.
