Biography

Brendon is a PhD student in Planning. His research explores the political economy/ecology of green transition policies (such as the Green New Deal). In particular, he focuses on the opportunities and challenges for improving wellbeing and social equity through environmental policy. His research is motivated by a deep grief over the suffering of the natural and human worlds, and a desire for social transformation.

Prior to the PhD program, Brendon worked for seven years at the City of Toronto on service system planning and public policy. He helped develop community food policy at Toronto Public Health, and child wellbeing indicators in Children's Services. Brendon also completed a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing at UBC. He enjoys writing fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction, and is an avid reader of Canadian literature and fiction that engages with the more-than-human world. His first novel is a coming-of-age story that explores themes of queerness, climate change, and spirituality.
