Biography
Danuka is in his first year as a planning student in the Department of Geography and Planning at the University of Toronto St. George. His academic experience stems from exploring how the development of cities is influenced by economic, social and environmental processes and how issues such as climate change and locally evident challenges such as housing signify the tensions between such interconnected processes. As a planning student, he finds the need to disentangle multi-dimensional issues as a critical focal point for developing equitable and sustainable cities for all.
Danuka’s interest in public-sector work has enabled him to gain professional experiences as an intern and cooperative student in the provincial government and agencies such as the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Metrolinx where he assisted environmental assessment initiatives for major construction projects at GO Stations in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and within transit operations where he supported transportation planners with service delivery for regional buses. More recently, he received the opportunity to work at the City of Toronto’s Procurement and Materials Management Division where he worked with procurement specialists to obtain goods and services on behalf of various city divisions.
