Biography

Roland Cheng is a queer geographer from Hong Kong who works on the intersections of geographies and sexualities. His PhD research attempts to examine how the lives of queers and gender-non-conformists are affected by the changing geo-political climate in Hong Kong as a global city, from the perspectives of individuals, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and activist groups. He plans to explore the alternative paths they create to maintain, protect and advocate for their rights in an increasingly apolitical urban setting. In his research master degree, he has conducted research on the spatio-temporal tactics of sex-working mothers in Hong Kong.
