In 2023, the CBC reported that more than 15 million hectares of land across Canada had fallen victim to wildfires--far surpassing the 10-year average of 2.5 million hectares--and an estimated 200,000 Canadians have been placed under evacuation orders this season. With the increasing risk of environmental stress from climate change, Leila's research focuses on the social equity of short- and long-term displacement after natural disasters using human mobility and street view data analysis.
