About the Course

This field course considers Toronto as shaped by the forces of ‘modernity’, particularly during the middle part of the twentieth century, and the legacies and afterlives of that complicated encounter. Our focus will be on the landscapes imagined, created, transformed, contested and destroyed during that period, mostly but not exclusively in the central city. As such, the course draws particular inspiration from cultural geography, but not at the expense of important social and political dynamics.

The course format will be a combination of field trips (early in the term) and seminar classes (across the term). For more information, please write to undergrad@geog.utoronto.ca.

Cost: There is a minimal cost (typically transit fare) for the field visits.
