Black Graduate Scholar Award in Geography & Planning: 2022 Recipients

Tri-campus Graduate Geography and Planning and the Black Research Network are pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Black Graduate Scholar Award in Geography and Planning

Brianna Lane (MSc), Kathia Johnson (Master of Science in Planning), Justin Rhoden (MA Human Geography), Maryam Owodunni (PhD Human Geography), Abdul-Salam Ibrahim (PhD Planning).

These outstanding graduate students are engaged in research focused on climate change science, adaptation and migration; ableism & racism in planning; multi-scalar representations of Chinese-African relations and racial capitalism, and understandings of truth and reconciliation within low-income racialized immigrant neighbourhoods.

The sites of their work are varied indeed and include: the Arctic, Ghana, Nigeria, Brampton, and the Malvern neighbourhood of Scarborough.
