PLA1516H: Reflexive Planning Practice in a Changing Climate
Planners are called to integrate equity and justice considerations into their responses to climate change, but doing so in a meaningful way can be challenging. Climate action aimed toward progressive reform must be grounded in a complete understanding of how underlying social processes affect urban dynamics in the context of climate change so that planners can avoid perpetuating climate injustice through their work. This course considers how urban governance actors can advance a form of climate change planning that is both ambitious and equitable, while encouraging students to question the subset of values that inform their work.
