Hello! My name is Caroline, and I am one of the Co-Presidents of TUGS for the 2021/2022 school year. I am in my fourth year, pursuing a Double Major in Human Geography (Focus in Planning) & Urban Studies along with a Minor in GIS. I have always had an interest in geography, mapping, and cities, which led me to pursue a degree in Human Geography and GIS. I am specifically interested in urban planning, real estate, and GIS. I am looking forward to working with this year’s TUGS executive team to provide Geography students with engaging events and helpful resources. In my spare time, I love to do outdoor activities such as paddleboarding and going on hikes!

Hello! I’m Teagan and I am one of the Co-Presidents for TUGS this year. I am currently in my 3rd year pursuing a double major in Physical and Environmental Geography and Human Geography along with a minor in Indigenous Studies. The interdisciplinary aspect of my majors allows me to learn and study about the earth and its many dynamic processes but also the spaces, places, and people that live on it. I am looking forward to a fun year ahead with many exciting events (and some of them even in person)! Outside of academics you can find me on the rugby field, looking for coffee, or wandering around Toronto’s parks!

Shameel MohammedShameel Mohammed, Human Geography Representative

Hello Everyone! I’m Shameel and you can call me Shamsham! I am currently a third-year student pursuing a Double Major in Human Geography and Urban Studies and I would also like to add a minor in Political Science. I am currently completing my fall semester online in Trinidad and Tobago so definitely I will be bringing the sea, sand and sun from the Caribbean to you. I really enjoy meeting everyone on campus so definitely reach out to me; whether it be about fun courses to take, Caribbean food recipes to try, fun spots to eat Downtown or just a casual conversation about life, I am always there. I am extremely excited about this year, and I am looking forward to a wonderful year ahead with the TUGS team, the faculty and most importantly you all, the Undergraduate Geography Students. See you all on campus. Oh, and for fun, I love to try out new restaurants and I also enjoy playing and watching all sports (Lol very competitive and my favorite football team is Manchester United).

Hi, I’m Isadora — this year’s Environmental Geography rep! My major is environmental geography with adouble minor in environmental biology and geoscience. This combo means I get to study the Earth’s interior, the Earth’s surface, and the life on top. Beyond studying, I enjoy hiking (which I hear is pretty common in the geography dept) and I’m on the UofT fencing team (which is a little less common). [The picture is from my summer spent working at a greenhouse.]

Hi everyone! My name is Katie, and I am so excited to be this year’s Physical Geography representative. I’ve always loved the outdoors and been passionate about the environment, so my double major in Biodiversity & Conservation Biology and Physical &Environmental Geography was a natural extension of those interests. In my free time (though there isn’t much of it) I try to exercise and get outside as much as I can. I’m really looking forward to being a part of TUGS this year and (finally) getting to meet a lot of fellow Geography students in person.

Hi everyone! My name is Irene Chang, and I am the GIS representative this year. I am a fourth-year student specializing in Human Geography, majoring in Urban Studies and a minor in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). I am interested in GIS because it can help us visualize spatial relations of geographic phenomena. Outside of school, I like to go on hikes, doing rock climbing, explore the city and spend time in a park with my friends. I am grateful to be a part of TUGS this year and cannot wait to work with the executive team!

Anna Zarina, Social Coordinator

Hi friends! My name is Anna, and I am so glad to be TUGS Social Coordinator for this year! I am an international student from Latvia and this is my third year at UofT. I am majoring in both Human Geography and Environmental Science. My interest in geography began in high school thanks to some really wonderful teachers and since then I've gotten only more curious about human stories from around the world and the maps that come along with them. In my free time, I love being outdoors more than anything as well as spending time with friends, doing some art and staying active.

Hi everyone! My name is Julia Malizia, and I am entering my fourth year as an Undergraduate Student at UofT! I am super excited to be the TUGS Media Officer for this year and look forward to keeping all students updated with fun events and everything geography related! I am majoring in Human Geography and Ethics, Society and Law. While my program combination may seem unique, studying these two majors has allowed me to learn about many of my favourite topics and enlighten me in different ways. Specifically, one of my major subjects of interest is Economic Geography, understanding what conditions give rise to development in the economies of various countries, as well as the Political Economy of Globalization. In my spare time, I love to exercise, grab a coffee with a friend and cook! I’m excited for this upcoming year – not only to be back on campus, but to work with a great executive TUGS team!
